Despite the fact that New York is currently awaiting a massive snow storm right now (*sigh*), spring is right around the corner.
Aside from doing a deep clean of my closet and going on a major clothing haul to prep for the next few months of fashion posts, I also try I try to reevaluate my beauty/skincare routine each season. Spring is one of my favorite times, because it brings lots of beautiful colors and delicious new scents.
However, it can be a tricky transition going from the dry winter weather to luscious spring in the blink of an eye. Of course, this is always how it seems to happen in New York. Luckily though, I’ve established a few rules of thumb (totally through trial and error) that’ll help even the most troubled skin transition seamlessly into the upcoming season:
1. lighten up
It’s no secret that winter sucks the life out even the oiliest skin. So, we compensate with heavy moisturizers. This is the perfect nourishment during the harsh, dry weather. However, spring brings swift changes for our skin, which retains the most water during these warmer months. Ease up on that facial moisturizer, or switch to a lighter version of your current fave.
My favorite trick is mixing a light moisturizer with my liquid foundation to achieve a dewey look. This is plenty of moisture for my skin that I can put on right in the morning when I’m getting ready for the day, making it easy to do away with the heavy night creams I use during the colder months.
2. pick the right products
Transitioning your skincare routine to a new season is almost impossible to execute without the right products.
One brand I’m currently obsessing over going into this spring is Le Petit Marseillais™ , which is one of the most beloved consumer brands in France. Now it’s available in the U.S. in the form of a carefully curated Walmart collection available in stores this March.
There’s 17 products in the line total, which can be found in Walmart Stores in the specialty bath and body aisle (where loofahs are sold) and online at Walmart.com.
Lately, I’ve been using:
- Le Petit Marseillais™ Orange Blossom Extra Gentle Shower Crème Body Wash
- Le Petit Marseillais™ Orange Blossom Extra Gentle Hand Soap
- Le Petit Marseillais™ Shea Butter, Sweet Almond & Argan Oil Nourishing Body Milk Lotion
The Orange Blossom Extra Gentle Hand Soap is the perfect way to keep fresh throughout the day, and winding down with the Orange Blossom Extra Gentle Shower Crème Body Wash and Shea Butter, Sweet Almond & Argan Oil Nourishing Body Milk Lotion is one of my favorite ways to treat myself and unwind.
And did I mention I love the ‘Orange Blossom’ scent? It smells so fresh and is completely perfect for spring. It’s also super budget friendly and the body washes are paraben-free, phthalate-free, pH balanced, and not tested on animals.
[You guys KNOW how important this is to me.]
So yeah, it’ rocks my world and I think it’ll rock yours too.
3. exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate
Another biggie for perfect spring skin is exfoliating. I’d recommend dry brushing before you shower to stimulate your lymphatic system and slough off that dead skin that’s dried up and accumulated over the winter.
I then like to follow up with Le Petit Marseillais™ Orange Blossom Extra Gentle Shower Crème Body Wash and Shea Butter, Sweet Almond & Argan Oil Nourishing Body Milk Lotion to finish off the process and restore that moisture to my skin.

4. spring clean
Another good habit to get into each season is cleaning out your beauty cabinet. You’ll want to toss anything that’s over 6 months old, unless the shelf life specifically states that it will last for longer. This’ll help ensure that you’re using the most potent products and not wasting your time with anything that’s past its prime.
5. grab the spf
Love me or hate me for saying this, but it’s time to break out with the sunscreen. Even if it’s not quite summer yet, the sun is bound to be out and about more often than not during the spring season. It’s essential to protect yourself! This is one of the easiest ways to prevent signs of aging and preserve your beautiful skin for years to come, so why not just go for it? And if you’re even thinking in your head about how much you hate lathering up with suntan lotion, check out this post on powdered sunscreen. It’s so underrated!
What works for your skin during the spring? Do you make changes to your routine each season or keep it the same?
P.S. Don’t miss out on the new Le Petit Marseillais™ products from Walmart! They’re fab and are the perfect addition to your springtime skincare routine.
