Reap the benefits of superfoods like turmeric and ginger with these easy anti inflammatory turmeric shots. No fancy cold press juicer needed!

Turmeric Shots

When I was in college, it seemed like there was always someone I knew that was sick.

We were all sharing the same classrooms, bathrooms, and even dorm rooms, after all.

Since I’ve always been a big baby about getting sick, I decided to start looking up some natural ways to boost my immune system.

That’s when I stumbled across the benefits of superfoods like turmeric and ginger and began playing with ingredients to create my own immunity boosting beverages.

I used to have one mason jar immunity drink that I’d make up ahead of time and bring to my 8 a.m. classes.

It was the most refreshing way to start the day and was loaded with vitamin c, ginger, turmeric, and other fueling, immunity boosting ingredients as well.

Turmeric Shots

There’s been lots of buzz around juicing over the past few years, and I’ve been seeing more and more recipes popping up for concentrated wellness shots.

Gone are the days of chugging a whole mason jar full of immunity boosters, and hello efficiency!

These concentrated wellness shots contain the same amounts of immunity boosting ingredients as my mason jar drink from college, the only difference is that it’s…well, concentrated.

My mason jar drink from back in the day contained lots of water as well, which I loved because it forced me to stay hydrated.

That being said, I love the easiness of just taking a few shots in the morning (wellness shots, obviously), and moving on to the rest of your day.

Before we jump into how to make ginger shots though, let’s review some of the turmeric and ginger benefits in detail.

Turmeric and Ginger Benefits

Ginger Shot Benefits

Though ginger shots have skyrocketed in popularity over the past few years, ginger elixirs have actually been used to combat a variety of illnesses since ancient times.

The benefits of ginger are more than just old wive’s tales though.

Ginger contains high amounts of anti-inflammatory compounds, including a number of antioxidants.

Antioxidants are important, because they help protect your body from damage from unstable molecules called free radicals.

Many studies also suggest ginger helps to reduce inflammation, and other ingredients in this particular ginger shot recipe do as well (we see you, lemon juice and turmeric).

In addition to reducing inflammation, ginger also has anti nausea properties and may benefit immune health.

One study even showed that ginger had antiviral effects, helping to boost immune response to a specific respiratory virus.

In addition to the above benefits, ginger shots may also benefit blood sugar control, boost weight loss, and exhibit anticancer properties.

Turmeric Shot Benefits

Similar to ginger, turmeric has been used for many years in Aryurvedic and Chinese medicine practices to treat things like inflammatory conditions, skin issues, digestive problems, and liver conditions.

Turmeric is best known though for its anti-inflammatory properties, which may help people with conditions such as arthritis.

Turmeric also contains plenty of antioxidants, and some studies have even shown that the ingredient may reduce the risk of cancer.

While it’s not a cure all, there are definitely some potential turmeric shot benefits that make it worth trying this popular superfood.

Does turmeric lower blood pressure?

One popular question is does turmeric lower blood pressure?

Some studies suggest that the main ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, may promote improved blood vessel function, increasing blood flow and potentially lowering blood pressure when taken in the form of a supplement.

Some people do think turmeric helps with certain medical conditions, but you should always consult your doctor before making any major changes to your diet or lifestyle.

The benefits of certain superfoods aren’t always widely studied though there’s of course lots of anecdotal evidence, so it’s important to consult a professional before changing your routine!

Turmeric Shots — How to Make an Easy Anti Inflammatory Turmeric Shot

Now that you know the main turmeric and ginger benefits, it’s time to show you how to make some nutritious turmeric ginger shots.

Step One: Juice Your Lemons

The first step in making turmeric shots is to juice the lemons.

I used an old fashioned juicer for this, and it worked perfectly!

Step Two: Juice Your Oranges

Next up, juice the oranges.

Again, I used my small old fashioned juicer for this.

Step Three: Grate & Add Ginger

Many recipes for ginger shots and turmeric shots require you to have a cold press juicer.

I wanted to make this recipe as accessible as possible, which is why I didn’t juice my ginger or turmeric.

Instead, I just peeled and grated the ginger before adding it to the lemon/orange juice.

I suggest using a zester like I did, to get the ginger grated up super fine so it doesn’t make the shots chunky.

And if you already own a juicer? Go for it! I simply wanted to provide another option so more people can enjoy this recipe, even if they don’t own a juicer.

Step Four: Add Olive Oil

To get the most out of turmeric, you’ll want to mix it with a healthy fat like olive oil to increase its effectiveness.

If you don’t want to use olive oil, feel free to use another fat like coconut, flaxseed, or avocado oil.

Step Five: Add Maple Syrup

Yup, that’s right.

Add maple syrup!

There’s no benefit to adding this ingredient, other than to sweeten up these bitter shots a bit.

You can also substitute the maple syrup though with honey for added immunity benefits, but I didn’t have any kicking around when I made this recipe at home.

Step Six: Add Black Pepper

Next up, add a dash of black pepper in order to increase the absorption of the turmeric and enhance the effects of this superfood.

Step Six: Add Turmeric & Shake

Last but not least, add your turmeric powder and shake it all up.

Again, if you own a cold press juicer and are able to juice fresh turmeric by all means go for it.

Otherwise, just use the spice like I did.

Turmeric Shots

Even though the flavor of these shots can be a bit strong, I am totally obsessed!

They’re perfect for taking on the go, and I love getting all these nutrients in without having to chug a whole drink down.
