How to Get Started With Essential Oils [A Complete Guide]

Thank you to Simply Earth for sponsoring today’s essential oils guide! As always, all thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.

Simply Earth Essential Oils Guide

When R. and I moved into our first home in August, we were admittedly pretty clueless. One thing we were sure of though was that we wanted to keep things as natural and chemical free as possible in our day to day lives.

I don’t use natural products 100% of the time yet, but I’m always up for researching and replacing items when I find something that serves its purpose just as well (i.e. my many natural beauty remedies I’ve written about here on the blog!).

That’s why it made complete sense when Simply Earth reached out to me for a partnership a few months ago.

For those of you who don’t know, Simply Earth is an amazing brand that sells essential oils and accessories + essential oil recipe boxes. They’ve found a way to cut out the middlemen, and sell pure oils to consumers directly. I love this, because I am not a person who wants to 1) overpay AND 2) have to go to a party or work through an acquaintance to get the products I need.

I’ve actually been interested in essential oils for quite some time now and did dabble in them a bit in college and while living with my parents. I never found a complete essential oils guide though, or got the real lowdown on how to incorporate these natural products into my everyday life and new household.

I have to say, Simply Earth  has totally taken out the guesswork for me.

When they sent over some products for us to test out in our new house, I was shocked at how thorough everything was. Not only did I get some beginner’s essentials, like a Simply Earth Essential Oil Diffuser and box set of six popular essential oil blends, but I also got the opportunity to check out one of their recipe boxes.

In addition to selling a wide variety of essential oils and essential oil accessories, Simply Earth also has a monthly subscription box. Each month, you get all the ingredients, containers, and extras you need to make SIX natural recipes.

This month’s box was super cute, with tons of Halloween themed recipes and spooky labels!

I don’t usually love DIY projects, due to the massive amount of time it takes to research recipes, buy all the ingredients, and actually make the product.

Simply Earth takes all that stress away though, and actually makes the projects fun!

October’s box includes four essential oils: Citrus Burst Blend, Energy Blend, Rosemary, and Cinnamon. It also comes with candle wax, candle wicks, sachet, and a little spider.

I could never come up with this stuff on my own, and I’m excited to be able to make my own natural products without having to be the brains behind the whole operation.

I finally feel like I know what I’m doing when it comes to essential oils, even though I’m still a newbie.

For those of you who are interested in getting started with essential oils too — it’s super simple. Here are a few of my top tips:

How to Get Started With Essential Oils [A Complete Guide]

1. Invest in an Essential Oils Diffuser

The first thing I’d recommend doing as part of this essential oils guide is investing in a great diffuser. I’ve owned several over the years, and I have to say that my Simply Earth diffuser is my favorite by far.

To be very clear, I’m not just saying that because this is a sponsored post…

The first essential oil diffuser I invested in I purchased from Walmart. It was okay for just starting out I suppose, but it wasn’t great quality and ultimately ended up breaking shortly after I bought it.

The second essential oil diffuser I bought was much nicer and made out of glass. I dropped it one day and made a huge mess!

The Simply Earth diffuser though combines the benefits of aromatherapy, aqua therapy, and light therapy. It can store up to 200ml of water, has a built in timer, and is very durable (yet not made out of glass). I keep mine on my nightstand, and it is so relaxing to use when I’m getting ready for bed. It’s a high quality, modern, and reliable diffuser that I know I’ll be able to use for years to come.

2. Choose Your Starter Set

One thing that I love about Simply Earth is that they offer a variety of essential oil “Starter Sets” for purchase. They come in a cute wooden box, and they really are the perfect way to dive into essential oils as a beginner, without spending a ton of money (because essential oils can actually be very expensive through some retailers!).

3. Take it a Step Further

This wouldn’t be a complete essential oils guide if I didn’t recommend ideas to take your essential oils practice to the next level.

Purchasing a diffuser and Essential Oils Starter Pack is perfect if you’re just looking for an introduction to the benefits of essential oils, but you become a true expert when you start crafting natural recipes utilizing your products. You can use essential oils to replace harmful, chemical laden household cleaners, beauty products, and more.

I recommend creating a Pinterest board for inspiration and recipe curation. You’ll learn so much just by seeing what other people are doing in their homes! I also of course have a lot of love for the Simply Earth Monthly Recipe Box as well, which is great for people who don’t want to or don’t have the time to sift through recipes online and go out to purchase all the ingredients and accessories.

P.S. I have a special code for those of you who are interested in the Simply Earth Monthly Recipe Box! Use HOLLYFREE at checkout to receive an Essential Oil Recipe box, Big Bonus Box (SO many goodies!), and a $20 gift card to use for future purchases upon your subscription. It’s such a steal and the perfect way to get started with essential oils!

Simply Earth Essential Oils Guide

I’ll be honest, I was kind of intimidated and uneducated about essential oils for a minute. That being said, it really is that simple to get started using these products in your home. It’s fun to create your own recipes, and I love the idea of replacing store bought items with homemade ones.

Not only is it beneficial because you know exactly what’s in the products you’re using every day, but there’s also just something special about being able to do it yourself and not rely on large companies to choose the ingredients we inhale, put on our skin, spray on our counters, etc.

I really am excited to keep learning more about natural products and incorporating these amazingly scented oils into my home.

Have you ever tried essential oils in your home? Is there anything I missed in this essential oils guide? I’d love to answer your questions if you have any!
