Ever since I can remember, I’ve been a bit jittery about the first day back to school. Maybe it started in sixth grade, when I forgot my planner and my teacher told me I needed to see a counselor to “get organized” (I literally never forgot my planner…except for that day, of course…). More likely though, it’s been going on my whole life — and not just when it comes to school.
The first day of anything is kind of everything. It’s the chance to make a good (or bad) first impression. It’s somehow exciting and nerve wracking at the exact same time. After dozens of first days though, I’ve realized that the secret to making it great comes down to just one thing:
Confidence.
For me, confidence comes from a variety of sources. One of the biggest factors is having my supplies (and backup supplies) easily accessible. Will I actually need 20 pencils, 5 highlighters, a stapler, erasers and gluesticks on the first day of, well anything? No. But hey, whatever makes you feel like you can walk into the room and own it is totally worth it.
And for those of you who aren’t quite as obsessive about office supplies as myself, I don’t doubt you can relate to the pressure to look perfect. You don’t want to look like you’re trying too hard, but you also don’t want to look like you’re not trying at all. Right?
Most of my outfits don’t get put together until the day of, but I do have some beauty staples that are absolutely essential to both stock up on before school and integrate into my pre-campus beauty routine:
- Clinical strength deodorant
- Sleek disposable razor
- Signature scent
- Eye shadow palette
- Bold lip
- Dry Shampoo
- Shine spray
- Gel nail polish
- Pump up playlist (for inner beauty)
There are a lot of other products floating around my vanity, but the above are the absolute essentials. I’m super picky when it comes to products, so even nailing a great disposable razor that won’t leave any stray hairs or cut up my legs is super important to getting the confidence I need to get through the day.
Whatever I’m prepping for, whether it be the first day of classes, an interview etc., I know that I’m going to walk into the room looking and feeling clean, confident and professional.
It’s one less thing to worry about.
