Horseback Riding Outfits: My Favorite Riding Breeches & More

Disclaimer: This post on “Horseback Riding Outfits: My Favorite Riding Breeches & More” highlights Thiandro Equestrian, a brand that is owned by me!

My favorite equestrian clothing brand and riding leggings

As long as I can remember, I’ve had two overwhelmingly obvious passions in life — fashion and horses. I’ve ridden horses consistently for over 20 years (wow, that makes me sound older than I am), and I’ve been writing about my favorite trends and fashion finds for the past decade here on this site.

While these two areas of interest have always been prominent in my daily life, I never saw an opportunity to combine them until recently.

After taking a medical leave from riding and immediately falling pregnant after that, by the time I finally got back in the saddle in the spring of 2023 I was due for some new equestrian apparel.

Any of my barn friends will tell you that my interest in fashion extends to the riding ring, too. I’ve always enjoyed trying the latest styles and I’m of course a big fan of matching my attire to my horse’s gear. With that being said, I was somewhat blinded to the lack of options in the equestrian apparel industry after being an active participant in the marketplace for so long.

When I returned to riding after about a year off though (probably the longest break I’ve ever taken since I started riding at age 7), I couldn’t help but notice the apparent gaps in this niche industry. Not only is it a challenge to find cute patterns that don’t have literal horse heads plastered throughout (because we don’t need to be that obvious about our love of horses, do we?), but I noticed that most of the items I personally gravitated towards tended to be European brands that were either 1) difficult to get (high cost of shipping & import duties), or 2) super expensive.

Even with easily accessible US-based equestrian brands, it seems that most equestrian apparel still has a luxury price tag on it. While horseback riding is often associated with wealth, those of us who actually participate in the sport know all too well how untrue that sentiment can be.

Finding that many equestrian brands didn’t seem to be on the pulse of the latest athletic trends and wishing that I wasn’t constantly scouring the clearance section at the retailers that did resonate with my personal style, I decided to take a major leap and start exploring the idea of creating my own equestrian apparel brand.

After over a year of hard work, I’m proud to introduce you to Thiandro Equestrian!

Launching this fall, our first collection will include a selection of mix & match riding shirts and riding breeches. All pieces in this collection are UPF 50, made of recycled fabric, and will be available in sizes XS-3XL.

We have an absolutely gorgeous color palette for this collection, and it also features an exclusive limited-edition pattern! I find that patterns in equestrian apparel are seriously lacking, so this is something I am excited about.

Another thing I am proud of is the design of our riding breeches, which feature zipper pockets on both legs. They also have a super high waistband, which not only looks amazing on a variety of body types but also makes them practical because they don’t fall down like many other brands.

My hope is that this is just the beginning for Thiandro Equestrian. I have countless ideas for additional products, and I am beyond thrilled to share my passion for equestrian clothing with the world.

If you would like to see all of the products featured in our debut collection, make sure to head over to our website. For a limited time, we are also running a giveaway for a chance to win a free base layer and pair of riding leggings of your choice. There is a tab at the top of our website to enter and see the full details/rules, but all you really need to do is join our email newsletter for a chance to win!

Lastly, a huge thanks to all of my incredibly supportive friends and family! None of it would be possible without your help, feedback, and encouragement.
