Housewarming Gifts 101: 8 Practical Housewarming Gifts You’ll Love

If you’ve been following along lately, you may know that R. and are in the process of building our first home. We’re less than two weeks away from our closing date now, and we couldn’t be more excited to finally move in and start making the place our own! In light of this milestone, you can expect to see some home decor content popping up here on the blog. It’s been a long time coming, and I’m looking forward to sharing this side of my life. With all the travel content we’ve been producing lately, I’ve really missed sharing some personal/lifestyle related content…now that we’ll have a place of our own, I’ll finally have the perfect space to start creating more of this! In the meantime though, let’s talk housewarming gifts…Errrr wait, let me rephrase that. Practical housewarming gifts that are actually useful and won’t break the bank!

Practical Housewarming Gifts

I have to laugh when I see some of these housewarming gifts on other sites that are upwards of $100. I’m not sure who these articles/roundups are geared towards, but I’m positive it’s not me or any of anyone I’m friends with, ha! I’ve always been a firm believer in the idea that it’s the thought that counts.

Housewarming gifts are in no way a necessity in my eyes, but they are a kind gesture that I try to keep in mind as more of my friends move into their first homes. While any thought at all is always appreciated, it’s nice if you can choose practical housewarming gifts that can actually be put to use. Nobody wants clutter in their new home, or things that they won’t actually use.

Here are a few of my favorite practical housewarming gifts that I think new homeowners would enjoy (or at least I know would enjoy, haha!):

P.S. Don’t forget to drop your favorite practical housewarming gifts below! I’ll have lots of friends and family moving into new places over the next few years, and I’d love to add your suggestions to this list 🙂

Practical Housewarming Gifts That Won’t Make You Poor

ULTA Moisture Gel Hand Soap ($6)

Like I said, housewarming gifts are totally optional in my opinion. If I’m inviting you over to enjoy my new home with me, it’s because I want to share it with you — not because I think you’ll bring a gift! That being said, there are of course a lot of things you need to buy when you’re moving into a new home. So, that’s where practical housewarming gifts can come in handy!

Luckily, one of the easiest, most economical housewarming gifts is simple. Just pick up a few bottles of this ULTA Moisture Gel Hand Soap (or something similar). Dress it up by tying a cute bow around the trio and adding a gift tag. You can rest easy knowing that this gift will actually get used, and it didn’t eat up your whole grocery budget for the week.

Yankee Candle 2-Wick 19.5 oz Square Candle ($21.87)

There’s no problem a new candle can’t fix. Am I right? This Yankee Candle 2-Wick Square Candle is currently one of my faves (the “velvet woods” sent is SO good), and it’s also a great affordable option. None of this $50 candle nonsense around here, haha!

Cactus & Succulent “Love Grows Here” Throw Pillow ($20.99)

If you’re decorating a new place, you’ve probably run into the throw pillow problem. I call it a problem, but it’s really just the irritating fact that even simple throw pillows tend to run pretty steep in price (like, $20-$30+ per pillow). This “Love Grows Here” option is on sale for just $20.99 at Kohl’s though, which is down from the original price of $35. Ya’ll know I live for a good deal, and this pillow is also just too darn cute to pass up! Just make sure you’ve got an idea of your friend’s decorating style before purchasing to make sure it’ll go with her vision for the space.

Southern Homewares Silicone Wine Glasses ($16.96)

She may have wine glasses, but does she have silicone wine glasses? I didn’t know these existed until recently, but I think the idea is genius! These wine glasses are perfect for everyday use, but they’re even better for those friends who love the outdoors. Whether it’s lounging by the pool, going camping, having a picnic, etc., there are just some situations where these cups beat glassware every time. Not to mention, they’re under $20, even when they’re not on sale. What’s not to love about that?

Kimberlee Wood Square Planter with Succulents ($48)

This planter is nearing that $50 price point that I wanted to avoid when making this guide, but I still think it’s a nice option if you’ve got a bit more of a budget to work with. I love that it comes with a variety of plants, and it can work well a lot of different home decor styles. If $48 sounds a bit pricey, a single succulent from Home Depot would work wonders as well!

Google Home Mini ($49)

It’s amazing how affordable these smart devices are becoming. I think a Google Home Mini would be a really cool housewarming gift, mainly because it can be used for so many different things. Whether it’s playing music, setting reminders, or controlling devices around your home with voice activation technology, there’s tons of ways to utilize these gems! I also can’t help but love the price point. A smart device for under $50? Sounds like a deal to me.

Azzure Home Black Wire Photo Frame ($24.97)

Little details like this wire photo frame can make all the difference in transforming a new house into a home. I especially love photo frames as housewarming gifts, because you can personalize them and add your favorite pictures of you and your loved one. You can also order cute prints and insert those instead! My future sister-in-law recently moved into her first apartment, and I framed a nice quote about traveling, since we are always planning trips together and are each other’s travel buddies. It turned out amazing!

Three Bowl Bamboo Cheese Board ($49)

Finally, my favorite of all the practical housewarming gifts…the cheese board! I love this bamboo board in particular, because it comes with three small serving bowls. It’s perfect for entertaining, and this is definitely something I would want (I love cheese). Though this one’s on the higher end price wise, it’s a great option if you have the budget, know the host well, and really want to give a show-stoppin’ gift!

What’s your favorite idea for a practical housewarming gift? Is there anything I should add to this list?
