This content is for ages 21+. Thank you to Line 39 Wine for sponsoring today’s post! I can’t wait to share with you not only the answer to the common question “What is glamping?”, but also some of my best tips and tricks to take your camping trip to next level.

What is glamping?

What is glamping? The term’s been popping up more and more over the past few years, but it’s still relatively young. First appearing in the United Kingdom in 2005, glamping refers to the modern take on the traditional camping trip. In fact, it’s a play on the word “camping” itself — insinuating that it is in fact possible to live glamorously while surrounded by nature.

According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, “If the eco-friendly idea of falling asleep under the stars and roasting marshmallows around a campfire appeals to you, but the reality of pitching a tent and sleeping on bumpy ground does not, glamping, the new term being used for upscale—or glamorous—camping, could be your ideal green vacation.”

What is glamping?

If you know me or have been following along for awhile now, you can probably guess that I’m more into the idea of glamping rather than camping. I’ve been known to pull out my sleeping bag and pitch a tent a few times in the past but, when faced with the choice, I’d much rather go for something a little more luxurious.

We visited the Catskill Mountains a few months ago (check out this post on 7 Things to Do in the Catskills This Weekend for a full recap) and had the opportunity to stay in an awesome, minimalist boutique hotel in Phoenicia, NY. Though the residence was technically a hotel, the minimalist vibes gave me a lot of great ideas and inspiration for planning a glamping trip of my own.

So, today I want to share with you some of my favorite tips for infusing a little glamour into your next camping trip! Believe it or not, it’s totally doable.

What is Glamping? || 5 Glamping Tips You Need to Know

1. Choose Your Accommodations Wisely

Truth be told, there aren’t any hard and fast rules when it comes to glamping. There’s plenty of different ways you can glam up your accommodations, like renting an RV, a luxury teepee, a decked out cabin, and more. First decide where you’d like to stay, and then do your research by finding out what’s available in that region. Make sure to compare prices while you’re at it!

Don’t worry if you’re not looking to rent, either. You can still hunt for your own luxury gear and pitch a tent the old-fashioned way. You don’t have to miss out on the glamping experience just because you decided not to spend the night in that $300 yurt. The important thing is that you’re staying somewhere that you’ll be comfortable. Even just investing in a higher quality air mattress can make all the difference!

2. Don’t Forget the Food and Wine

One of the easiest ways to turn your trip from camping into glamping is by always packing great food and wine. This summer, my favorites are Line 39 Cabernet Sauvignon and Line 39 Sauvignon Blanc.

The Line 39 Cabernet Sauvignon has a beautiful ruby color, and a fruity, smooth flavor that pairs well with foods like hamburgers, chicken sliders, steak, or filet, and the Line 39 Sauvignon Blanc works well with seafood thanks to its crisp, clean flavor. I like to pack them both, since we’ll usually end up eating a lot different kinds of food on our trip. I like to say that if there’s a grill, there’s a Line 39 wine!

The other cool thing is that Line 39 wines have consistently won best buy ratings. They’re approximately $11 per bottle. For the quality of wine, I think it’s an incredible value and perfect addition to any glamping trip.

3. A Portable Grill is a Must

Another thing you’ll want to make sure you pack is a reliable portable grill. Some campsites and parks will have grills available, but it’s a lot easier when you’ve already got your own on hand. Rich is very excited about our new Weber® Q®1200 portable gas grill, which we’ll actually be using at our new house and on our glamping trips. The Weber® Q®1200 portable gas grill features porcelain-enameled, cast-iron cooking grates, an infinite control burner valve, built-in lid thermometer, removable catch pan, stainless steel burner tube, folding side tables, and a cast aluminum lid and body.

You can imagine why he’s pumped about it, right?

P.S. Line 39 is teaming up with Weber® Grills for a fun summer sweepstakes! 4. Invest in Your Gear

When it comes to glamping, don’t be afraid to invest in your gear. You don’t have to rent a fancy cabin or teepee to experience the glamorous side of camping, but more spacious tents and higher end air mattresses, bedding, etc. can upgrade your setup immensely. Also don’t forget to bust out those twinkly lights and candles to really set the scene.

5. Choose the Right Weekend for Your Trip

It won’t matter if you’re glamping or just plain camping if it’s raining during your entire trip. It might sound obvious, but make sure you choose the right time to try glamping. Just because you’re in an RV or cabin doesn’t mean your vacation will automatically feel luxurious! It’s the trip as a whole, and pulling it all together with the above tips and good timing that make it truly special.

What is glamping to you? Do you have any tips or tricks for the perfect trip?
