Why Color Blocking is the New Trend to Try (+ How to Rock it!)

Aside from the anticipation of exploring new cities and meeting interesting people, one of my favorite things leading up to a trip is planning my outfits (note: I did not say I enjoyed packing the clothes, though 😂). I always try to choose clothing that will complement the places I’m visiting and that will help tell a story. My passion for photography has also grown immensely in the past year, so I often want everything about an image to be perfect…right down to the clothes I’m wearing.

If you’ve read this post on 5 Reasons You Need to Visit Punta Cana, you know that I had the pleasure of visiting the Dominican Republic last month. This was a particularly fun trip to plan for, because I decided to embrace bright colors and patterns to the absolute fullest when it came to picking outfits to both shoot and actually wear during our travels (see one of my favorite pieces I got to wear here).

Since I knew I’d be visiting an island, it felt only natural to spice up my wardrobe a bit and add in some bold tones that often get lost during our brisk New York winters. That’s how I stumbled upon this Mara Hoffman color blocked dress that I love so much! Not only was this piece incredibly fun to shoot, but it felt like the perfect choice for depicting my resort style in the Dominican.

Bold, fun, sassy? Yes, please. I’m definitely looking forward to bringing this trend back home with me, too, during the summertime. It’s the perfect way to make a statement.

Oh, and the other thing I love about color blocking? With the Mara Hoffman pieces I’ve been crushing on, it’s easy. All I had to do with this look was throw on the dress, add some earrings for extra flair, and pair with a pair of sparkly gold strappy heels. Most of the work was done for me with this dress! It truly speaks for itself, which I love.

If you’re aching to try color blocking yourself, check out some of the Mara Hoffman pieces below for inspiration. They’re all so on trend, and they totally make me ready for summer!

What’s your resort style look like? Do you like to dress up and play with patterns like me, or do you like to keep it more low key?
