This is What I Eat in a Week: Food Diary Part One

A photo posted by The Blonde Chiffon (@hollyhabeck) on Aug 31, 2016 at 11:51am PDT If you follow along on Insta, you know that I love posting pics of what I’m eating. I’ve become quite the chef since I moved into my own apartment last year, and one of my favorite parts of cooking is sharing the food that I enjoy with others. If you guys read this post on staying healthy in college, you also know that I’m turning over a new leaf this year and really putting health at the top of my list of priorities. Because the greatest wealth is health, right? One of the things that I’m doing to try to live a healthier lifestyle is planning, and sometimes even cooking, meals ahead of time. I’ve also been keeping track of what I’m eating and the nutritional value of the foods that I choose. This has totally…

7 Things You Need to Be Healthy at College This Year

Being healthy isn’t always easy. Most of us have very different definitions of the word to begin with, and today’s society doesn’t exactly help us to understand what we need to do to get there anyways. Not only do we live in a country where there’s some major portion distortion going on, but we live in a world where nasty additives and other sick-o ingredients are all too common. Okay, lecture over. Seriously though, add challenging courses, extracurricular activities, and internships into the mix and it can be almost effortless to gain the freshman 15 (20, 30…). And who said freshman are the only ones at risk? All four of my housemates will vouch that we ate more than our fair share of late night cookie dough last year! Here’s to a fresh start though *insert champagne emojii here* (which would be only hypothetical, since mimosas are definitely not on the…

30 Things to Do This Summer

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Hawaiian Tropic®. The opinions and texts are all mine. As I adjust to adulthood, I find myself questioning many of the decisions I made about my body when I was younger. For example, all of the ridiculous sugary and uber-processed snacks I begged my mom for every time we went to the grocery store. Not so sweet anymore though, now that I know what’s really in a lot of the junk food I used to love. I also reflect on decisions that didn’t involve food (ha!).  Here’s another example — When I went to Jamaica in high school I decided not to wear sunscreen. At all. Not only was I red as a lobster, but my entire body was covered in blisters by the second day and I even developed a second degree burn on my chest. And for what?…

How to Make Time for Yourself When You Don’t Have the Time

I recently saw a post on Instagram that stated: I screenshotted it for some later contemplation, but honestly forgot about the whole thing. Then, a few days later, I was listening to a podcast when one of the speakers basically said that you should never dread Monday mornings. If you’re not excited for your week to start, you’re doing it (aka life) wrong. So…stop waiting for the weekend and get down and dirty with Monday mornings? Ha! Biggest freaking joke in my book (have I mentioned I am SO not a morning person? Though I wrote about how to turn yourself into one here…). Okay, so I kid a bit but…isn’t this a habit that comes naturally to us? I know that I’m constantly waiting for something. Right now, it’s graduation. I’m kind of over the whole college thing at the moment, but afterwards I’ll be waiting until I find the…

Must-Know Cold and Flu Essentials

Somehow every year, just as the nice spring weather comes out to play, the flu tends to hit us right smack dab in the face…and sometimes, (in my case) even during midterms week. Double whammy. And as someone who very rarely gets sick (thanks to a lot of the tips below that can also prevent sickness as well as lessen the blow once you’ve already caught a ‘lil something), I must admit that I am the ultimate crybaby when I do. I am SO (usually unnecessarily) sad and mopey, and completely rely on Richard and my mom to take care of me *insert lots of grateful heart eye emojiis here*. But… This isn’t really acceptable as a 19-year-old, autonomous college student, is it? Luckily though, I’ve been able to develop a regimen that’s pretty spot on for treating nasty cold and flu symptoms, as well as kicking potential infectors in…

7 Ways to Make Mornings More Positive

Though I’ve been making huge strides towards living a healthier and more mindful life (hello meal prep and pilates), early mornings are a never-ending struggle in my book. Or wait, actually mornings in general. Ask my mom, Richard or roommates, and they’ll tell you I’m the queen of sleeping in and slugging around until noon. Like every. freaking. day. I absolutely hate this nasty ‘lil habit of mine, because it means that I don’t actually start getting sh*t done until the second half of the day. Can you say stressful? I spend the first half sleeping and/or walking around in a half-comatose state, moving at sloth-like speed, just to have a million responsibilities to tend to all before the evening rolls around! And not only is this kind of behavior not cute (you try walking around your house in a fuzzy bathrobe, messy bun and glasses for half the day…

15 (Non-Boring) Ways to Drink More Water

Ever reach the end of the day and realize you’ve barely downed even just one glass of H2O? It’s pretty sad considering the general consensus that we should intake about 64 oz. daily. And while this may be a no-brainer during the summer months, this recommendation still rings true even now that the (sometimes) cold weather has hit. In fact, you’ll probably find yourself drinking less and less water as the temperature drops. Without the beating sun and 90 degree weather, there’s few physical reminders to hydrate. However, drinking up is one of the most efficient and natural methods to clearing up that nasty winter acne and detoxifying your entire system. I recently whipped out my trusty 32 oz. Nalgene water bottle in an effort to start drinking more water and am loving the results I’m seeing with my skin (I also am lusting after this BKR bottle now that…
