Festival Season

While I was a little disappointed to retire some of my sweaters this week, I’m making up for it with a bit of retail therapy. Festival season is officially upon us, which means it’s time to break out some of my favorite summery pieces. I channeled Cali vibes last weekend, but it’s time to invest in a few staple bohemian items to complement my more traditional wardrobe. Here are a few of my favorite picks, which are perfect for festival season:

SUNNIES: I’m ashamed to admit it, but I only own one pair of sunglasses (WTF?! I know.) A cool pair of shades is an absolute must. I’m loving the round glasses especially, which are totally beach babe material. Suggestion: Don’t splurge on a trendy accessory (if you’re on a college-girl budget, like me)! I really liked these Urban Outfitters glasses (pictured above) when I first saw them, but I fell in love when I realized they were under 20 dollars. Spending a lot of money on an item that will probably be out of style next year is not my thing, but I’m definitely willing to invest in a cute, reasonably priced pair of sunnies that I know I can sport all summer. Who knows, I may even buy a few more pairs!

GOLD: Okay…I’m not usually a gold person, but when it comes to festival apparel it’s pretty much my ride or die. I love Lucky Brand’s collection in particular, which always features a vast array of boho gems. Trust me, it. never. fails.

SHOES: A (or 10) cute pair(s) of shoes is a total “duh”, right? The options are endless, from boot-like sandals to platform lace ups. I’m a sucker for Free People, but usually wait until their options go on sale. However, I might just have to invest in platform sandals, which are just irresistible! Forever 21 also has some great festival selections that are totally budget friendly (right up my broke a**’s alley).

LACE: Lace seems to be a huge trend this year. We’re talking HUGE. I’ve seen it just about everywhere. It’s also perfect for festival season because it’s super lightweight. My favorite combo is pairing sheer, lacy numbers with patterned bandos for a breezy and carefree look.

HATS: I like hats for a few reasons. 1. They’re kind of a must if you’re hitting up a music festival. 2. They protect you from the sun. 3. They cover up a bad hair day. Though I mostly own baseball caps at the moment (yes I DO have a sporty side), a good summer hat is still something I need to add to my wardrobe. Confession: I’m always stealing my mom’s floppy beach hat. Sorry mom!

HEADBANDS: Headbands are a daily necessity for me. They totally save me on bad hair days/days when I’m just too lazy to do anything else. They can also be a great fashion statement. I love throwing my hair up into a big, round sock bun and complementing it with a boho ‘band. It takes less than five minutes, but still looks put together (in that casual/bohemian/I woke up like this kind of way).

FLASH TATOOS: I haven’t actually tried these yet, but I have some sitting in my room at home just waiting to be experimented with. I love the metallic look of them, and I’m sure they’re going to be a big hit this summer at the festivals.

BACKPACKS: This one’s more for you festival goers, though I do love the few fashionable backpacks I own. Obviously you’re going to need something to carry your things around in all day, and trust me, you don’t want it to be a shoulder bag weighing you down.

What festivals are you most excited for this summer? Spill!
