Wow, it feels like it's been literal ages since I've shared a post under the tag 'Motivational Monday'. This series was one of the first that I created on The Blonde Chiffon, yet somehow it gradually faded away. I'm still working on my New Year's resolutions (yes, I'm aware that January is almost over), but I know that one thing I want to do is to start writing more raw, inspirational content.
So, here's this series' revival. I figure, it's 2017. Why the hell not? There's certainly much crazier things going on in the world today. This series also gives me the chance to write more off the cuff, instead of my typical listicles & how-to posts.
As much as I love 'em, they're not exactly the most entertaining write up. This is especially true for someone like me, whose love of beautiful photography and sharing her life online was long preceded by a passion for writing.
So, there you have it. This lovely series is back and better than ever. Now let's shift gears, shall we?
Every once in awhile, I find myself in quite a bind. I experience an absolute, staggering creative block. It's not just that I don't know where to start when it comes to writing a post. I completely lose track of my inspiration and, honestly, my motivation crumbles. I don't touch my blog or social accounts, yet I'm constantly trying to drum up the creative juice to crank out another post. Sometimes this happens for days, sometimes for weeks. There was one time where it lasted for a month.
If you happen to be a blogger, or have any blogger friends, you know that this can be a big, emphasis on BIG, problem. We've got photoshoots to rock, deadlines to make, sponsors to answer to...not to mention our most important priority: being there for our readers.
For a long time, I was absolutely clueless as to the cause of this cyclically occurring barricade.
Recently though, I experienced a breakthrough.
A lot of unnecessary obstacles (and in my case, creative blocks) arise from the simple act of comparing ourselves to other people. It's all too easy to get down on our own journeys when we're nonstop judging ourselves and our progress in relation to others.
One of my mottos for 2017, and some of the best advice I've heard, is to to stay in your own lane. In addition, stop comparing the beginning of your own journey with the middle or end of someone else's. We never truly know all of the hard work and elbow grease that goes into another person's success, and often times there is a lot of behind the scenes action to make that person's dreams become a reality. Odds are, they've been working their butts off, and it's just finally starting to pay out.
Blogging is a particularly difficult industry, because there are so many of us. Despite the fact that the saying is SO overdone that my ears practically bleed when I hear someone mention it, the market truly is saturated, saturated, saturated. There's only so many influencers that can be permitted to work on a project and, while there's certainly lots of opportunity in this digital age, there is a lot of competition — for people's eyeballs & people's time!
Though comparison has been a common stumbling block throughout my career, 2017 is going to be the year where I really push myself to...you guessed it...stay in my own lane. After all, how can you expect to stand out in a saturated industry when you're overly engrossed in what the rest of the crowd is doing?
So, bottom line? Be yourself; there's only one of you in this entire world. Plus, many of the world's most successful people got to where they are today by going against the grain and marchin' to the beat of their own drum. Am I right?
ALSO: This outfit! Before I hustle to get ready for a dinner out (and one of my last nights of binge watching Reign before classes start again), let's chat about it. We actually shot this look a couple months ago (which you already know if you follow on Insta), but I feel like it's appropriate for January too, no? It's got just a hint of spring colors with the baby blue and peach, yet the black weighs it down and makes it super appropriate for the mild "winter" weather we've been experiencing lately in NY. I'll try my best to leave some similar pieces below so you can shop your heart out too!
Okay, have an amazing week love!
