If you've seen this post, you guys know just how much I love pops of color. Specifically, there's a special place in my heart reserved for bright and pretty pinks (as if you couldn't figure that out from Insta). That being said, I don't think that neutrals should be left in the dust when spring arrives, especially not for super overdone pastels. I am a sucker for a lilac blouse or light pink bag, just like any other girl this time of year, but why succumb solely to this one trend?
It's boring, and so predictable!
There's so many styles that get forgotten about during the spring, but today let's talk about...*drumroll*...neutrals.
What? You thought neutrals were only for the fall? Guess again, girl. Here's five reasons you should totally consider implementing them into your spring wardrobe right now:
1. it's Classy AF
You guys may or may not know this, but I am HUGE into binge watching. It's kind of like an addiction, but everyone does it right? Well, lately I can't get enough of Scandal. I mean, I actually googled "How to be Olivia Pope" the other night. And for those of you who are just as obsessed, you already know how amazing white can look, because Olivia Pope practically lives in it (ex. here). I'm telling you, neutrals are your go-to when it comes to looking like a boss.
2. it's an easy way to highlight accessories
One of my favorite things about rocking neutrals is the opportunity to bring out fun accessories. For example, I had just received the tote in these photos right before the shoot (small version here, and regular size here) and knew I wanted to incorporate it into a look. However, I also knew that the busy pattern meant it couldn't be worn with just anything. Developing a neutral outfit around the new bag was a great idea, because it helped to highlight the specific item that I was excited about. This works not only with patterned items like the Vera Bradley tote, but also with bold/statement accessories.
Ex. This necklace would be perfect with an all-white outfit.
3. It's different
Like I said, everyone's into pastels lately...just like every spring. Instead, I like experimenting and standing out from the crowd a bit. It's not to say I don't ever follow trends, but it's fun to mix it up. And neutrals are a great way to still look bright and cheerful without being overly trendy.
4. It's not snowing
There's a lot of white going on during the winter (at least in NY), so people tend to get pretty washed out, especially if they're rocking neutrals. Since there's not really any color outside during the winter, that's when I most like to bring it into my wardrobe. Now that things are coming back to life though, this is a great opportunity to complement it with an all-white or beige look.
What do you guys think? Would you ever rock neutrals in the spring, or are you just too head over heels for pastels?
I'm off to make some avocado toast and visit my horse now that finals are officially over.
Happy Friday babes!
With the athleisure trend in full swing, I'm really vibing on casual pieces lately. I finally invested in a pair of Adidas sneakers a few months ago, which have really stepped up my game. And I don't even care that everybody and their mother has a pair at this point, because they're SO. DAMN. COMFORTABLE.
Seriously, just try 'em on. This pair is loaded with memory foam, so it's legit like you're walking on a cloud. I straight wear them at least a few days per week, simply because they're so comfy and go with pretty much anything.
Earlier this week, I shared with ya'll some of my thoughts on graduating. It's honestly a bit of a weird time, and overall it's bittersweet. But want to know what I absolutely, hands down HATE?
Having to move my entire life out of my apartment and back home.
This is coming from someone who hauled a literal trailer to campus with all of her stuff in it at the beginning of last year. There was that much.
So yeah. Moving out is a sick freaking joke at this point.
So, perhaps you've read this post, where I told ya'll about the little hurricane warning we had in NY last week...
Sounds like fun, huh?
We're obviously *quite* ready for summer over here in the East Coast, so I just couldn't resist putting together a little warm weather roundup to get in the spirit. I'm loving all the pom poms and tropical prints this season, despite the fact that I'm trying to keep away from such bright pieces (I wear 'em once and get bored). I can't wait to just lay out in the sun all weekend though — with SPF like 1 million on of course, b/c I'm a psycho bitch about preventing wrinkles.
Unfortunately, it's still sweater weather here in NY.
In fact, we had a literal tornado warning on Monday night.
WTF East Coast.
Can you see I'm a bity salty about this 'lil predicament here? I'm a person whose mood is definitely affected by the weather, so the constant grayness outside is quite underhwelming. How's a girl supposed to stay creative (which is essentially us bloggers' bread & butter) when it's downright gloomy out?
You guys know I love me a good deal. After all, I did write a whole post on how to afford designer clothes in college. And ICYMI, that really translates to: how to afford designer clothes when you're broke as sh*t.
Seriously though, I get a good laugh every time I see a fashion blogger advertising a "sale", where her favorite picks are "just *insert absurd price here*. To each her own...but I refuse to drop $50 for a t-shirt (cue "Thrift Shop").
For some reason, I never plan my Easter outfit out too far ahead. I've seen a number of bloggers dressed to the nines in gorgeous floral numbers and other festive frocks for the past few weeks, but I'm more of a last-minute kind of gal. I also don't love some of the stiffer looking pieces — you know the dresses that just look kind of hard to breathe/move around in?
Instead, I'm taking more of a lax approach to my Easter attire this year and opting for my favorite flowy pastel maxi skirt. It's easy to style (#lazygirlapproved), and is absolutely killer if you're looking for something that just screams "Easter weekend".
In this social media age, where FOMO is becoming the complete norm, I often hear college girls envying fashion bloggers and other Insta stars for their seemingly "perfect" lives.
Along with those picture perfect moments are also, typically, killer outfits. After all, isn't this part of what makes us girls jealous of these social media mavens in the first place? Not only do they jet set around the world experiencing the best of each and every city under the sun, but they do it in style.
Maybe I'm just speaking for myself, but lusting after clothes that are WAY out of my budget (which I typically stumble upon through street style blogs or Instagram) is just another day in the life of a broke-a** college girl. Ya know?
Ahh, self care. The oh-so-trendy topic that's simply everywhere on the web right now. It sounds very Gwenyth Paltrow if you ask me, but I love that #treatingyoself is actually becoming a legitimate practice.
I mean, if you're not taking care of yourself, what ARE you doing?
Am I right?
I do think that there's this huge misconception though that self care needs to be some elaborate, expensive, time consuming, etc. process. In reality, self care is a gold mine for us boss ladies.
If you've had the chance to peruse my ever-growing library of fashion content, you may have noticed that I'm not typically one for flashy jewelry. I love a statement necklace just as much as the next girl, don't get me wrong. However, I have a few staple pieces that hold a lot of meaning to me and that I wear almost every day.
Try to spot them in the next outfit post I publish ;)
Anyways, I thought it'd be fun to give you guys a rundown of the pieces that you've probably already seen on me and will continue to see for a long time to come:
Thank the freakin' Lord, spring is finally in the air. Winter has been treacherous around these parts, but it was (almost) all worth it when I got to pull out my favorite polka dotted number this past weekend. I'm already feeling a major purging of my winter closet coming on, and I absolutely can't wait to break out more of my spring pieces.
In the spirit of the warmer weather, I want to share with you guys five trends I am loving this season in hopes of helping you perfect your spring wardrobe fast. I swear, just grab the below essentials, and you'll be up to speed in no time.
