When The Blonde Chiffon launched in late 2014, I had NO idea what I was getting myself into. I didn't know much about blogging at the time, and I regularly spent hours scouring the internet for info on how I could get "better". I was finally able to (kinda) get my sh*t together for 2015 and make a lot of improvements. Among my favorites were improving my photography and learning to produce content that suits a specific target audience. I also started monetizing, which has completely blown my mind. I'm definitely not making a living off of my blog right now, but I can see that it is entirely possible in the future. So exciting!
Overall, I'm thrilled with the progress came with 2015, but I KNOW that I'm going to do everything in my power to make 2016 an even bigger year for growth. I'm leaving my resolutions below, and feel free to leave any of yours (blog or non-blog related) in the comments. I'd love to see what you're up to!
Continue posting 3+ times per week.
I've recently started planning out the majority of my posts weeks/months in advance in order to reach a goal of at least three updates per week. This has had a TREMENDOUS effect on my traffic. I've noticed that when I post more, I'm more inspired. When I'm more inspired, I come up with more/better post ideas. Then some of those ideas come to fruition and go viral! Posting at least three times per week also helps because it gives me more analytics to work with. I have more posts to compare against each other and use to figure out what my audience is/isn't digging. I'm definitely looking to continue this practice through 2016.
Grow my email list.
I was kind of late to the party with the whole email newsletter and updates thing. For the longest time, I didn't think I needed this. BUT, I'm definitely going to be switching things up with the new year. I think that growing an email list can (not always) be synonymous with growing a loyal following. Most people won't stay subscribed to a newsletter that they don't value, and popping up in someone's email inbox every few weeks is a great way to stay connected. I'm hoping to build loyalty with my audience by growing my email list and eventually providing subscriber-only programs such as a resource and printable library.
Start a new series.
I've kind of called it quits with most of the series I started at the beginning of my blog, and I want to start a new one for 2016. I think series can be a valuable way to bolster consistency and attain repeat viewers. I'm not sure what the series will be about yet, but I definitely will be implementing something that sticks this year.
Double my traffic.
I think numeric growth is something that is always in the back of any blogger's mind. I'm hoping to attract more viewers to my site in 2016 and double my traffic!
There you have it -- my 2016 blog and biz resolutions! What are yours? Any suggestions on how I can make some of these things happen? Happy New Year!
Well friends, I did something big this past weekend.
I graduated from college.
It still feels very surreal — and thinking of myself as a "college graduate" honestly feels kind of creepy, haha.
That being said, I'm beyond happy.
In fact, the quote "Dobby is a free elf" keeps popping into my head. Because now, as cliche as it sounds, I'm free. Free to do whatever it is I want. No homework, due dates, exams, etc. to answer to.
So I'm back from my three-day girls trip to the Adirondacks, and let me tell you...it was so needed. First of all, we had an entire free week to burn before graduation. In other words, why the hell not shack up at a dude ranch in the mountains for a few days?
Secondly though, I think all lady gangs should do this kind of a thang more often. Getting away from the hustle & bustle for a few days was honestly priceless. We particularly loved the place that we stayed, because it was all-inclusive. Therefore, all of our meals and activities were included with our lodging. We had ZERO things to worry/stress/overthink/plan about.
With the athleisure trend in full swing, I'm really vibing on casual pieces lately. I finally invested in a pair of Adidas sneakers a few months ago, which have really stepped up my game. And I don't even care that everybody and their mother has a pair at this point, because they're SO. DAMN. COMFORTABLE.
Seriously, just try 'em on. This pair is loaded with memory foam, so it's legit like you're walking on a cloud. I straight wear them at least a few days per week, simply because they're so comfy and go with pretty much anything.
I won't lie, I've been on a bit of a sugary/greasy food bender for the past few (!) weeks.
[Hence why I told ya'll about my plans to join a gym stat, here.]
Since finals week, my girlfriends and I have been livin' it up on Wendy's frostys & fries, cheese balls, coconut cake, + basically any other nasty-ass food you can think of.
It's gross. I KNOW.
I never put on the freshman fifteen, so maybe it'll just be the senior 15 instead, all compounded in the two weeks prior to graduation, haha! #cantescapeit
Our last day of classes was Friday, and I'm officially done with exams this Wednesday.
How in the world am I graduating in less than two weeks?!
It sounds so cliche, but it really does feel like it was just yesterday that I was packing for orientation, stressing about finding a roommate, gagging over the nasty dining hall meals, etc. It's amazing how time seems to move so slowly day by day, until all of the sudden everything seems like a complete whirlwind and it's all moving too fast! It's honestly hard to fully enjoy these last few weeks at school just knowing that it's almost over in the back of my mind.
So, perhaps you've read this post, where I told ya'll about the little hurricane warning we had in NY last week...
Sounds like fun, huh?
We're obviously *quite* ready for summer over here in the East Coast, so I just couldn't resist putting together a little warm weather roundup to get in the spirit. I'm loving all the pom poms and tropical prints this season, despite the fact that I'm trying to keep away from such bright pieces (I wear 'em once and get bored). I can't wait to just lay out in the sun all weekend though — with SPF like 1 million on of course, b/c I'm a psycho bitch about preventing wrinkles.
Unfortunately, it's still sweater weather here in NY.
In fact, we had a literal tornado warning on Monday night.
WTF East Coast.
Can you see I'm a bity salty about this 'lil predicament here? I'm a person whose mood is definitely affected by the weather, so the constant grayness outside is quite underhwelming. How's a girl supposed to stay creative (which is essentially us bloggers' bread & butter) when it's downright gloomy out?
You guys know I love me a good deal. After all, I did write a whole post on how to afford designer clothes in college. And ICYMI, that really translates to: how to afford designer clothes when you're broke as sh*t.
Seriously though, I get a good laugh every time I see a fashion blogger advertising a "sale", where her favorite picks are "just *insert absurd price here*. To each her own...but I refuse to drop $50 for a t-shirt (cue "Thrift Shop").
Ahh productivity. It's a tricky thing, isn't it? These days, I'm distracted by just about anything and everything, and I sometimes find myself wasting the day away on miscellaneous tasks, only to be forced to stay up late at night in order to get actual work done. It's terrible!
As they say, "Do something instead of killing time, because time is killing you." A bit morbid, but accurate — right?
Lately I've been implementing a few strategies to get my head back in the game, and they've been working so well that I just had to share with you guys, too.
For some reason, I never plan my Easter outfit out too far ahead. I've seen a number of bloggers dressed to the nines in gorgeous floral numbers and other festive frocks for the past few weeks, but I'm more of a last-minute kind of gal. I also don't love some of the stiffer looking pieces — you know the dresses that just look kind of hard to breathe/move around in?
Instead, I'm taking more of a lax approach to my Easter attire this year and opting for my favorite flowy pastel maxi skirt. It's easy to style (#lazygirlapproved), and is absolutely killer if you're looking for something that just screams "Easter weekend".
