5 Summer Lip Colors and Makeup Ideas For Every Budget

Does anyone else feel like summer deserves her own category, separate from all the other seasons? (Not sure why I’m personifying summer as a female, but it feels right…)  I love summer. LOVE it. It’s always fun for me to dig out my high waisted shorts, bright tanks and flowy dresses that have been momentarily forgotten about and move them front and center in my closet. BTW, I absolutely believe rearranging your wardrobe is necessary each season, especially if you have a small closet like me (sigh). But, that post is for another day… Anyways, there’s something special about the season that warrants a change in routine. Slow things down a little but also spice it up? Anyone else with me?  And like I said, I love bringing out bright colors and even a few crazy prints this time of year. But that’s obvious, right?… So let’s talk about summer makeup…

The Best 5 Minute, DIY French Vanilla Coffee Body Scrub

I’m a huge fan of body scrubs. Actually, I’m a huge fan of all bath/body products. I also have a tendency to greatly overestimate how much product I can use in a given period of time, so I end up with a lot of half-full containers of forgotten beauty products. Now, if you’re a beauty aficionado like myself, you know all too well the havoc that some of the best buys can wreak on your bank account. I think I speak for all of us when I say that I don’t want to choose between Chipotle and the latest release from LUSH. They’re both essentials in my book! So that’s where this DIY French Vanilla Coffee Body Scrub comes in. I’ve been wanting to try a coffee body scrub for some time now, but haven’t found a product that feels like it’s worth the investment. So what do you do when…

Top 6 Spring Beauty Buys

Are you guys loving this weather lately, or is it just me? The consistent sunshine and warmth is an instant mood booster, and I’ve been experimenting with lots of new products for the past few months to get a good idea of my fave, ride or dies this season. Though I suppose none of them are exclusively spring themed, I’ve definitely developed a beauty routine that coincides with the changing season. Overall, my mantra this spring is looking and feeling amazing, with little to no prep. What’s not to love? If you happen to be a student like myself, this motto can be a total lifesaver during finals week. It also works if you’re an outdoorsy kind of girl, because the time you save getting ready can be well spent enjoying this beautiful changing weather. Personally, I’ve loved every second I’ve spent cruising around, windows down, blasting Sex (by Cheat…

Prom Beauty checklist

It’s that time of year again — prom season. Call me a little ridiculous, but I still get pumped despite the fact that my high school days are long gone. It’s always fun seeing some younger friends’ and family get all dressed up, and it’s just as enjoyable to reminisce, especially since Richard and I had two proms together! That being said, there are definitely a few things that I wish I had known back then (like the fact that Richard would accidentally RIP MY DRESS at junior prom…I had to get all safety pinned up by my teachers. Lol. My awkward life.)…okay, a LOT of things, but we’re talking beauty essentials today. And if you’re a big kid like me who’s already had her last high school hoorah? Trust me, you’ll still want to read on. I guarantee you’ll thank me later when you’re heading to your next wedding or other…

5 Ways to Incorporate Oatmeal into Your Beauty Routine

If you’re a regular here on TBC, you’ve probably figured out that I’m a bit of a beauty addict. I love the thrill of finding a new fave product or dupe, and I’m even more excited when I can incorporate my passion for natural/healthy living into my overall routine. …and lately that overall routine has been a bit lacking. The cold winter winds have been absolutely destroying my skin, and I’ve had so much on my plate I can barely keep my head on straight, let alone come up with a solution. But…as per usual, just when it feels like I’ve tried every product I can think of to fix a beauty blooper, in walks an alternative that’s way less complicated than I’d ever dreamed of. Like oatmeal. I’ve recently become a bit of a health nut and have been incorporating oats into my diet in all sorts of ways (overnight…

Why Your Hair is Greasy (and how to fix it!)

We’ve all been there. You wake up one morning and your hair just isn’t what it was last night. You curse the beauty gods from above and wonder why bad things happen to good people. And the worst part? Now you’ve got to shower. In the morning. And possibly go to work with wet hair. This does NOT work in New York…at least not in January (unless you enjoy your hair actually turning into icicles). I was running into this problem way too often this fall (thank GOD), and I’ve finally gotten to the bottom of it. (Side note: Don’t ya love how I’m talking about my hair being greasy to all of you? I know. GROSS. But hey, TBC is all about teaching/learning, people, and if I have to share some not-so-flattering info to help a few gals out, it’s no skin off my back.) So, here it goes,…

Splurge or Save?: Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty

If there’s one beauty product I love, it’s a good face mask. I’m kind of (totally) addicted to the completely renewed complexion that comes after finally washing one off. So, I’ll throw one in my shopping cart on a whim (aka when I’m looking to pamper myself) and have fun with it. The hard part though? Actually finding a good face mask. I’ve tried a handful of drugstore options and, while I’m never entirely dissatisfied, I always find myself indifferent towards the brand and type of mask. It’s not uncommon that I purchase a whole tube of a mask I’m really excited to try, just to throw it in a bin in my bathroom and never use it again. It’s wasteful, but what can I say? I’m not easily impressed, I guess. Regardless, I’m not a big spender when it comes to beauty products. So, it was definitely a treat when I unwrapped…
